Clothing (''nyise'' [nɥiːɕɵ]) in Meó is heavily influenced from the clothing of the Htaevic cultures, but with a few uniquely Meó innovations. Evidence of Htaevic influence. It is very common for Meó people to go shirtless in day to day life, and it is socially acceptable for people to show their bare breasts regardless of gender. The ''loekava'' [lɵːkɑvɑ] is a Meó form of the poncho worn in many different contexts, it is generally regard as acceptable attire in all but the most formal of occasions. There are several subtypes of ''loekava'', mostly differing in the formality. There are a few different ways to wear the ''loekava'' but the most common is the "twist" method, a sheet is draped from the left arm over the front of the body, and then twisted and thrown over the right shoulder (the reverse - right arm, left shoulder - is used only for funerals) to the back. Once thrown over the back, the sheet still on the left arm is thrown over the left shoulder and the poncho is joined by a series of special pins/holes called ''bies'' [bjeːt̪]. The poncho generally drapes over the elbows, though some variants may differ. Some (generally merchants, artisans), may opt to wear a belt around the poncho called the ''mavié'' [mɑvjeː]. Almost all ''loekava'' have different colouring on each side (generally black and white), and usually stick to just two colours in intricate patterns, though a third or fourth may be added for embellishment.

Influenced by the baggy pants of the Htaevic cultures, the ''śapyi'' is a single rectangular sheet of cloth that is wrapped around the legs in an "s" or "yin-yang" shape and joined again to itself using ''bies''. The edge of the cloth is first placed at the right of the body and then is draped to the left leg, it is taken to the back and then under the legs to the front. Then, it is wrapped around the right leg and then taken back to the left hip. The first edge of the cloth is then joined to the right side of the body using ''bies'' and the other edge likewise is joined to the left side with ''bies''.
As the most basic ''śapyi'' do not offer full covering of the genitals, undergarments such as the ''dośe'' [dzoːɕjɵ] may be worn, while more sophisticated ''śapyi'' have an undergarment compartment built in. The ''śapyi'' was developed as a piece of clothing that could over more motility then a simple skirt like construct, while still having the openness that a skirt provides.

== Music ==
Meó music is characterised by its sombre, often mournful tone, and its heavy use of voice. Few instruments are used to create powerful pieces.

=== Źali ===
The ''źali'' is an instrument similar to the didgeridoo, it is made out of the hollowed out trunk of a tree. It is the least used instrument in Meó pieces, but the most religious. It is believed that its sounds blur the lines between the physical and spiritual worlds, and that it is also capable of transcending the soul to Haki. It may be the only instrument played in a piece, or it may be used to punctuate other pieces.

=== Mansó ===
The ''mansó'' is most similar to the duduk, it is a Meó flute with a deep sombre tone. It is generally made of wood in modern times, although historically bone ''mansó'' were not uncommon. It has a "reed" made from the leaves of the ''Kalinśa'' tree.

=== Sasaná ===
The ''sasaná'' is the most diverse of the Meó instruments, it is like a cross between a cello and an erhu, and its sound varies from the warm tones of the cello to the lamentful whines of the erhu. Generally, two ''sasaná'' are used in most pieces, a lower pitched and a higher pitched one. However, the lower pitched ''sasaná'' is replaced with a ''mansó'' in many pieces.

=== Navadén ===
The ''navadén'' are Meó drums and drumsticks, which are both utilised as instruments, though considered the same instrument. The ''navadén'' is a heavy and powerful drum, and is often used sparingly through out pieces, to "punctuate" the melody. The drumsticks may also be banged together as their own instruments (cf. clapsticks). Some styles, however, make heavy use of the ''navadén'' in a fast paced rhythmic manner, often accompanied by chanting and high pitched ''sasaná''.

=== Śasei ===
The voice, or ''śasei'', is often considered the most important part of Meó music, with both lyrics and various vocalisations being utilised. Often pieces start with only the voice, adding instruments later. There is a diverse range of use of voice in Meó music, though it is often low-pitched and powerful.

The Meó language is a language spoken within the nation of Alaźéta Meó as well as within its former colonies and throughout the [[Malaeze Sea]]. It is the official language of the Meó Amalgamate. It has millions of speakers. It is ultimately derived from [[Ancient Meó]]

Meó is noted for its odd phonology, with multiple dialectal difference in pronunciation and an array of phonological processes. Still, its orthography remains relatively phonemic. The following phonology is based off Aesanma/Urban Meó, which has become the De Facto standard for communication.

=== Tone ===
The tones of Meó may only occur on stressed syllables, with unstressed syllables carrying the neutral tone (usually produced as mid, though tone sandhi affects this). The exception is the low tone, which may occur unstressed due to the preceding h- it features, which is always pronounced. Similarly, in some conservative dialects where the h- in the high tone is conserved, the high tone is pronounced unstressed as a result. This is considered archaic in most dialects however. The tones and their unstressed forms are indicated in the following chart through demonstration with the syllable "tan"

The clusters /xŋ/ and /xg/ are not permitted and /xm/, /xn/, /xd/, /xð/, /xʑ/ are not permitted initially. /xp/ and /xb/ both are merged into /xv/.

== Naming System ==
The Salinke, the Kuana, the Malo, the Sati, and the Varisti were the five tribes that united to form the Meó nation, and the five tribes remain important today, with all ethnically Meó people knowing their direct maternal and paternal tribe, as it is embedded in their naming system.

-va is the feminine suffix and comes first for females, -di is the masculine and comes first for males. "Salinkedi Kuanava" is a male whose direct paternal lineage is the Salinke, and direct maternal is Kuana, whilst "Salinkeva Kuanadi" is a female whose direct maternal lineage is Salinke and direct paternal is Kuana. If a child is born to parents of direct descendants of the same tribe (e.g. Malodi and Malova), they only have one name without the suffixes (Malo).

The naming system is as follows;

[given name] [guardian deity] [maternal/paternal tribe] [paternal/maternal tribe] [parent name] [parent name]

The guardian deity is one of the five sacred deities of the Meó religion of [[Siela]]. It is an important part of the name as it determines which honorific one must use when addressing a person, detailed below. The first form (ending in -n), is the neutral/polite form and generally the most common, the -va form is for people who have a maternalistic relationship to the addressee (i.e. mothers/grandmothers talking to children and vice versa), whilst the -di form is similarly the paternalistic form. It is generally reserved only for familial relations and is often considered rude or patronising to use outside of these contexts. There are in addition a series of honorifics stemming from the "-n" form. There are many nuances in the honorifics of Meó.

EXAMPLES:

Vakalu Áhko Malo Mirodi Sanakava (M) and Sieri Amiru Sativa Varistidi Sunuva Kapadi (F) wish to have a child named "Makune", and assign him the guardian deity Akiá (the wheel). His name will thus become Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva. In common speech, he will simply be referred to as "Kián Makune", or "Kián Makune Malodi", but in more formal contexts as "Kián Makune Malodi Sativa", and in more formal contexts still (i.e. death, marriage, religious ceremonies, etc.) as "Akiánava Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva", followed by any other titles he has amassed.

Makune now wishes to have a child with his husband Kahali Ahké Salinkedi Varistiva. As they are both males, the traditional naming system does not work, so together they must determine on whether to name him "Malodi Varistiva" OR "Salinkedi Sativa" (Note, *Malodi Sativa and *Salinkedi Varistiva are not viable name choices, as they do not carry on the name from both sides.) Both names are valid, and they may choose either.

== Vocabulary ==

Most vocabulary derives from the [[Meó-Succlythian languages|Proto-Meo-Succlythian Language]], though much of the vocabulary traces its origin to the [[Fertile Tongue]], especially words related to the ocean, and later through Htaevic influence much of the sophisticated vocabulary of Meó comes from languages derived from the fertile tongue (cf. English and French/Latin).

This is where the early Meó peoples (specifically the Sati and Varisti tribes) crossed through to reach the Yot River Valley/modern day Sati/Varisti. When they refused to become part of either Sati or Varisti states, they were kicked out of the empire due to their neutrality. They still remain part of the greater Meó Realm, but they are neutral in many international affairs and have grown to have a distinct identity.

Unlike Meó, where [[Siela]] dominates, Meota is home to a variety of religions, mainly descendants of the ancient Herlucc religion and a native religion called [[Hkuesa]] (of which 62% of the population adheres to), which is a form of Haki worship with unknown sources (likely developed from a mixture of Siela and Herlucc, as both elements of both religions are present). History of Meó

=Five Tribes=
During 6000 Y With the introduction of the religion of [[Siela]], the Salinke, the Kuana, the Malo, the Sati, and the Varisti united to become one, the Confederation of the River Meó. The five tribes each have their homeland on one of the different rivers of the Htàsei basin.

=The Agricultural Revolution=
Shortly after unification, came the first agricultural revolution with the invention of the wheel (6200 Y by the [[Succlythians]]?), as it spread to the basin from the east. This event is very important to Meó history and identity and the wheel is revered throughout the basin and beyond. Akiá [ɑkjɑː] is the deity of the wheel (from "kia" wheel and "a-", the deity prefix). It is during this period that the [[Meó Numerical System]] is invented, although it would be more than a millenium before writing was invented. Sometime between 6200-7300 a bunch of Sati/Varisti cross through modern day Meota to go east and they establish some towns there on the Yot river.

7300s the first Meó writings appear after the Haki republic is writing things and Meó is like wait i wanna do that too. So it does. Also cultural influence or whatever the upper class is Haki republicans maybe. Also parts of modern day provinces of Salinke, Kuana, Sati, Varisti are now all Meó.

=The First Meó Empire=
Once having established a firm grip on the basin, Meó expanded its horizons and went on to conquer the [[Shattered Islands]] and the dominate the [[Malaeze Sea]]. They take a lot of stuff in the 8500s.

=The War of the Prince Crab (9,349-9,358 Y)=
Prince Vahkètto [vaˈxkéːtːɵ], establisher of the [[Kahlà Dynasty]], attempted to visit [[Prince Suakasui]] of [[Rvàshen]] in order to expand his diplomatic power to the south of the [[Malaeze Sea]] and attempt to increase the legitimacy to his claim of the [[Shattered Islands]]. Unfortunately, he achieved the exact opposite, by unknowingly eating the crown prince crab [[Azu]]. The irony of this was not lost on him, as Vahkètto's own father had cannibalised in order to achieve his position on the throne of Meó. The result of this diplomatic skirmish was the start of a 9 years long war between Meó and the Unuvi princedoms, with millions of deaths. Meó also tries to take over the valley to the west or something.

Prince Vahkètto [vaˈxkéːtːɵ] was the first prince of the [[Kahlà Dynasty]]. He is known for greatly impacting Meó society and being one of the most revered Princes in the history of the empire, and for technically committing regicide and cannibalism, thus starting the War of the Crab Prince. His father, Megurú, better known by his epithet Daśueizako (meaning "The Slain Blood Prince"), ascended to the throne by murdering and eating ruling monarch Princess Savanla. Savanla was just 21 bienniums of age at the time, and he was 46. As she had no remaining family and no heirs, by default it was assumed that Megurú would take the throne, as he was the only one that "possessed royal flesh". He was a ruthless monarch, and widely hated within the nation. Shortly after he had taken the throne, he had 68 children with his twelve wives. Vahkètto was the only one deemed eligible to be heir, however, as he was the only child born in one of the Holy Sites of Meó, a requirement for one to become regent. His 67 siblings all gained somewhat important titles, however several were murdered and eaten by Megurú.

Kuandi Yavi (literally "towards the foot, away from oneself", alternatively Kuandi Yavi Baŋú, Kuandi, Kuandia or several other names) is the national and most popular sport of the Meó Empire. It is played in teams of three to five people, and the goal of the game is to attain as many points as possible. It is similar to sepak takraw or volleyball, except that it takes much influence from martial arts as it evolved from them. Unlike sepak takraw/volleyball, Kuandi Yavi does not feature a net.

Kuandi Yavi originally evolved from training practices within the Meó martial art of [[Yasei]], it was a way to develop kicks and strategy.

== Rules ==
The main rule of Kuandi Yavi is that one may never hold the ball, and they may never let it hit the floor. Any body part may be used to contact the ball, though use of the foot predominates, with many elaborate kicks unique to the sport. The predominance of the use of the foot/kicks is due to both the fact the sport originates from kick-focused Yasei training, and that it is only with the foot that one may score points (though the definition of "foot" has widely expanded, now any body part except for the hands or the head may be used to score points). Points may be scored through a variety of sources, such as kicking the baŋú through the goal (usually only counts if it is kicked from the opposing half of the court) or when the other team makes a fault (drops the baŋú, holds the baŋú, etc.). Some codes maintain that using the head/hands to put the ball through the goal is a fault, though in the national code this is not a rule.

The court is roughly between the size of a volleyball court and a basketball court. The two ends at either end feature wide goals, which often take up the whole width of the court and are demarcated solely by lines, with physical structures being very rare.

Meó features a tone system (more accurately, a pitch-accent), with one of four registers being assigned to each stressed syllable. Generally, one tone is allowed per morpheme. Bisyllabic morphemes are very common in Meó.

The 'h' here is often pronounced, especially in formal speech. /xŋ/ and /xg/ are not permitted and /xm/, /xn/, /xd/, /xð/, /xʑ/ are not permitted initially. /xp/ and /xb/ both are merged into /xv/. This is the only 'tone' allowed to occur unstressed. However, it is the stressed unless marked otherwise. E.g.

== Naming System ==
The Salinke, the Kuana, the Malo, the Sati, and the Varisti were the five tribes that united to form the Meó nation, and the five tribes remain important today, with all ethnically Meó people knowing their direct maternal and paternal tribe, as it is embedded in their naming system.

-va is the feminine suffix and comes first for females, -di is the masculine and comes first for males. "Salinkedi Kuanava" is a male whose direct paternal lineage is the Salinke, and direct maternal is Kuana, whilst "Salinkeva Kuanadi" is a female whose direct maternal lineage is Salinke and direct paternal is Kuana. If a child is born to parents of direct descendants of the same tribe (e.g. Malodi and Malova), they only have one name without the suffixes (Malo).

The naming system is as follows;

The guardian deity is one of the five sacred deities of the Meó religion of Siela. It is an important part of the name as it determines which honorific one must use when addressing a person, detailed below. The first form (ending in -n), is the neutral/polite form and generally the most common, the -va form is for people who have a maternalistic relationship to the addressee (i.e. mothers/grandmothers talking to children and vice versa), whilst the -di form is similarly the paternalistic form. It is generally reserved only for familial relations and is often considered rude or patronising to use outside of these contexts. There are in addition a series of honorifics stemming from the "-n" form. There are many nuances in the honorifics of Meó.

EXAMPLES:

Vakalu Áhko Malo Mirodi Sanakava (M) and Sieri Amiru Sativa Varistidi Sunuva Kapadi (F) wish to have a child named "Makune", and assign him the guardian deity Akiá (the wheel). His name will thus become Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva. In common speech, he will simply be referred to as "Kián Makune", or "Kián Makune Malodi", but in more formal contexts as "Kián Makune Malodi Sativa", and in more formal contexts still (i.e. death, marriage, religious ceremonies, etc.) as "Akiánava Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva", followed by any other titles he has amassed.

Makune now wishes to have a child with his husband Kahali Ahké Salinkedi Varistiva. As they are both males, the traditional naming system does not work, so together they must determine on whether to name him "Malodi Varistiva" OR "Salinkedi Sativa" (Note, *Malodi Sativa and *Salinkedi Varistiva are not viable name choices, as they do not carry on the name from both sides.) Both names are valid, and they may choose either.

Ancient Meó

Ancient Meó is the oldest attested form of the Meó language, the earliest attested form being on the writings in the [[Meó Shell Script]] (so named for being written on shells), whose earliest inscriptions can be dated back to the 73rd century. It is the ancestor of the modern day [[Meó language]], and of an additional 800 languages/dialects (the nature of whether these constitute "dialects" or "languages" is of much political controversy within the Meó nation and abroad, especially in the region of Post-Succlythia and within [[The Shattered Islands]]). == Naming System ==
The Salinke, the Kuana, the Malo, the Sati, and the Varisti were the five tribes that united to form the Meó nation, and the five tribes remain important today, with all ethnically Meó people knowing their direct maternal and paternal tribe, as it is embedded in their naming system.

-va is the feminine suffix and comes first for females, -di is the masculine and comes first for males. "Salinkedi Kuanava" is a male whose direct paternal lineage is the Salinke, and direct maternal is Kuana, whilst "Salinkeva Kuanadi" is a female whose direct maternal lineage is Salinke and direct paternal is Kuana. If a child is born to parents of direct descendants of the same tribe (e.g. Malodi and Malova), they only have one name without the suffixes (Malo).

The naming system is as follows;

The guardian deity is one of the five sacred deities of the Meó religion of Siela. It is an important part of the name as it determines which honorific one must use when addressing a person, detailed below. The first form (ending in -n), is the neutral/polite form and generally the most common, the -va form is for people who have a maternalistic relationship to the addressee (i.e. mothers/grandmothers talking to children and vice versa), whilst the -di form is similarly the paternalistic form. It is generally reserved only for familial relations and is often considered rude or patronising to use outside of these contexts. There are in addition a series of honorifics stemming from the "-n" form. There are many nuances in the honorifics of Meó.

Vakalu Áhko Malo Mirodi Sanakava (M) and Sieri Amiru Sativa Varistidi Sunuva Kapadi (F) wish to have a child named "Makune", and assign him the guardian deity Akiá (the wheel). His name will thus become Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva. In common speech, he will simply be referred to as "Kián Makune", or "Kián Makune Malodi", but in more formal contexts as "Kián Makune Malodi Sativa", and in more formal contexts still (i.e. death, marriage, religious ceremonies, etc.) as "Akiánava Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva", followed by any other titles he has amassed.

Makune now wishes to have a child with his husband Kahali Ahké Salinkedi Varistiva. The Ahko tree is an important tree in the Meó empire, it takes the form of one of the five deities as Áhko. Despite its name, it is not a true tree as it does not produce wood but rather a thick more grass like material. Historically it has been used in the Empire as a building material or as a fuel source. It contains a large amount of flammable oils, which combust when the temperature is hot enough, causing the tree to almost explode. This is one of its adaptive mechanisms for reproductions (cf. Eucalypts). Because of this property, it is strongly associated with fire within the empire and the religion of [[Siela]].

Siela is the name given to the religion practiced by the Meó. It is based off the Five Deities. Five is an incredibly sacred number to the Meó. The Siela religion is deeply embedded within Meó culture to the point that the line between Siela and Meó culture is often incredibly blurred. The five deities are as follows;

Amáko - Deity of the [[Mako]], the Terrestrial Living, the Ground. Element is Wood. Associated tribe is the Malo.

The five deities are a core tenet of Meó society, and at birth every child is assigned one of the five deities. People are addressed by varying forms of honorifics based on their deity. Although all deities have an associated tribe, this does not necessarily mean that an individual of a tribe must have their associated deity, quite the opposite in fact, with every tribe having a decent portion of each of the deities. Some Meó may choose to contact an adviser when assigning a deity, although this is coming increasingly less common in the modern Meó society.

The Meó language is a language spoken within the nation of Alaźéta Meó as well as within its former colonies and throughout the [[Malaeze Sea]]. It is the official language of the Meó Amalgamate. It has millions of speakers.

Meó has eight vowels, each with a stressed and unstressed form. Some of the unstressed forms may merge with others. Stressed to the left, unstressed to the right. Stress falls on the first syllable unless marked, with an acute accent over the vowel, except for ú [ʉː~yː] and u [uː], which are the assumed stressed vowels within a word, unless another vowel is marked with stress. ɵ is represented by oe, and æ by æ or ae, if they are stressed, the acute accent goes on the first vowel of the digraph, ɑ is represented by "a" and the rest of the vowels go by their IPA equivalent except for u and ú as previously explained.

Meó features a tone system (more accurately, a pitch-accent), with one of four registers being assigned to each stressed syllable. Generally, one tone is allowed per morpheme. Bisyllabic morphemes are very common in Meó.

[htè̤ːn] - low hCV - hten. The 'h' here is often pronounced, especially in formal speech. /xŋ/ and /xg/ are not permitted and /xm/, /xn/, /xd/, /xð/, /xʑ/ are not permitted initially. /xp/ and /xb/ both are merged into /xv/. This is the only 'tone' allowed to occur unstressed. However, it is the stressed unless marked otherwise. E.g.

Vahte [vɑˈhtè̤ː]

vs.

Váhte [ˈvɑ̄ːhtè̤]

[téːn] - high, hCV́ (historically breathy, now considered archaic) - htén

== Naming System ==
The Salinke, the Kuana, the Malo, the Sati, and the Varisti were the five tribes that united to form the Meó nation, and the five tribes remain important today, with all ethnically Meó people knowing their direct maternal and paternal tribe, as it is embedded in their naming system.

-va is the feminine suffix and comes first for females, -di is the masculine and comes first for males. "Salinkedi Kuanava" is a male whose direct paternal lineage is the Salinke, and direct maternal is Kuana, whilst "Salinkeva Kuanadi" is a female whose direct maternal lineage is Salinke and direct paternal is Kuana. If a child is born to parents of direct descendants of the same tribe (e.g. Malodi and Malova), they only have one name without the suffixes (Malo).

The naming system is as follows;

[given name] [guardian deity] [maternal/paternal tribe] [paternal/maternal tribe] [parent name] [parent name]

The guardian deity is one of the five sacred deities of the Meó religion of Siela. It is an important part of the name as it determines which honorific one must use when addressing a person, detailed below. The first form (ending in -n), is the neutral/polite form and generally the most common, the -va form is for people who have a maternalistic relationship to the addressee (i.e. mothers/grandmothers talking to children and vice versa), whilst the -di form is similarly the paternalistic form. It is generally reserved only for familial relations and is often considered rude or patronising to use outside of these contexts. There are in addition a series of honorifics stemming from the "-n" form. There are many nuances in the honorifics of Meó.

EXAMPLES:

Vakalu Áhko Malo Mirodi Sanakava (M) and Sieri Amiru Sativa Varistidi Sunuva Kapadi (F) wish to have a child named "Makune", and assign him the guardian deity Akiá (the wheel). His name will thus become Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva. In common speech, he will simply be referred to as "Kián Makune", or "Kián Makune Malodi", but in more formal contexts as "Kián Makune Malodi Sativa", and in more formal contexts still (i.e. death, marriage, religious ceremonies, etc.) as "Akiánava Makune Akiá Malodi Sativa Vakaludi Sieriva", followed by any other titles he has amassed.

Makune now wishes to have a child with his husband Kahali Ahké Salinkedi Varistiva. As they are both males, the traditional naming system does not work, so together they must determine on whether to name him "Malodi Varistiva" OR "Salinkedi Sativa" (Note, *Malodi Sativa and *Salinkedi Varistiva are not viable name choices, as they do not carry on the name from both sides.) Both names are valid, and they may choose either.
