Pëya

From PavHaki Wiki

Pëya is a cereal crop that was domesticated in the Yot river basin. It is a domesticated form of the L. Socheriae grass. The body of the plant is 1-1.8 metres in height and 2-5 cm in diameter. Branching off from the body in a spiral pattern are a series of short and thin pinnatisect leaves. At the top of the stalk is the flowering body, a dense and branching inflorescence that bears the grain. The size of the grain varies from 0.5 mm to 1 mm. It has a very slightly earthy, nutty taste, if the bran is not discarded.

Leaving the seeds to germinate (or malting) brings out the nutty tones and sweeter flavours, this can be done before or after harvesting, but is most commonly done after. Pëya malt is a common ingredient in desserts, drinks, and other dishes.

Pëya is predominant in the Shattered Islands, Meó, and the Yot river basin, as well as Unuvun and Nokhta. It also is grown in Ivinis and eaten by Delezian descendants there, predominantly in communities originated from the Htaevic realm.
